Carel van Rijn

hoogte-80

After his study ‘guitar’ at the Arnhem Conservatory,  there were too few bass players around, so Carel van Rijn started as bass player with ‘Blues Corporation’ (with a.o. Gert Elferink). In the 1970’s he went on with famous jazz drummer Pierre Courbois, played with ‘Guus Tangelder Big Band’ and ended up in a varied mixture of Classical, Jazz and World Music. In ensembles like Paleo-Parëa en Kazu, Carel unites his beloved musical styles. This musical centipede climbed stage already at thirteen and since then he just can’t stay away. Initially just focused on guitar en bass, later on everything that has strings. Rock, Rhythm & Blues, Soul or Jazz: no musical genre leaves him unmoved, as long as it finds its roots in African or other ethnic music. With music as work and travelling as a hobby he organizes music tours to West Africa since 1998.
